🌎 Amazonia Peoples

Amazonia is not only one of the most extraordinary ecosystems on Earth β€” it is also home to millions of people whose cultures, knowledge, traditions, and ways of life are deeply connected to the region.

Across forests, rivers, cities, and remote communities, Indigenous peoples, riverside communities, Quilombola communities, rubber tappers, extractivist communities, and many others have helped shape the history and cultural identity of Amazonia.

Their knowledge of the forest, rivers, plants, wildlife, and natural cycles has been passed down through generations. These communities also face profound social, economic, and environmental challenges while playing important roles in preserving their cultures, territories, and the ecosystems on which they depend.

In this section of the Amazonia Journal, we explore their histories, traditions, knowledge, daily lives, achievements, and contemporary challenges β€” with respect for the diversity and identity of each community.

Discover the people, cultures, and stories that are an essential part of Amazonia.
